What is your BMI?

Your Body Mass Index (BMI) can tell you if you are Healthy Weight Range.

It is important to remember that a BMI Calculation is not perfect as it does not take into account age, people less than 5 feet, muscular builds and pregnant woman.

Matthews Calorie Counter does not use your BMI in any of your weight loss calculations. Your BMI is just a ballpark figure and should not be used to determine whether you are healthy or not, only your doctor can determine that.

What is my Daily Calorie Limit?

Your Daily Caloric Intake is the number of calories you want to consume daily to meet your weight loss goal.

Setting a 'Daily Calorie Intake' will allow you to be more conscious of how many calories you consume per day, which will give you an overall advantage meeting your weight loss goals.

Your Daily Caloric Intake is derived from multiplying your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) against a Daily Activity Level. This method is called the Harris-Benedict Principle or Harris Benedict Formula.

The resulting number is your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure), and can be used to set a healthy daily calorie intake to lose, gain or maintain your weight.

The number from this Calculator may differ from your Daily Calorie Intake within MaCC. MaCC creates your Daily Calorie Intake based on a Sedentary lifestyle and then lets you manually add exercises to create your TDEE. This allows for more accurate Weight Loss Predictions.

How to Calculate Daily Calorie Intake?

Step 1. Use our BMR Calculator to find your Basal Metabolic Rate.

Step 2. Find your TDEE by multipliing your BMR against your Daily Activity Level:

Activity Level Chart

Sedentary (little or no exercise) TDEE = 1.2 * BMR
Lightly Active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/wk) TDEE = 1.375 * BMR
Moderatetely Active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/wk) TDEE = 1.550 * BMR
Very Active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days/wk) TDEE = 1.725 * BMR
Extra Active (physical job or 2X day training) TDEE = 1.9 * BMR

Step 3. Calculate your final Daily Caloric Intake based on your diet goal:

To Maintain Your Weight Daily Calorie Intake = TDEE
To Lose Weight Daily Calorie Intake = TDEE - (20% of your TDEE)
To Gain weight Daily Calorie Intake = TDEE + (20% to your TDEE)
